The session aims to introduce workshop participants to:
• The key, defining features of personality disorder presentations, with a focus on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)
• Clinical guideline o how to worth therapeutically with both presentations
The session will include:
• Theoretical understanding of both presentations from a Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT) perspective
• Examples of visual CAT maps ad diagrams to help clients better understand their repeating relationship patterns which cause upset and difficulty
• Core principles for how the therapist can keep themselves and clients safe and contained when engaging in such work
The session will be delivered through:
Presentations, case demonstrations, self-reflection exercises and group discussions
The learning outcomes of the session are:
• Participants will be able to explain the distinguishing features of BPD and NPD
• Participants will be more aware of their own capabilities and the appropriate limits when engaging in such work i.e. knowing when to refer on
