The session aims to introduce workshop participants to:
Introduce participants to the definition of ACT and the key theoretical principles that underpin ACT
Introduce participants to the six key ACT processes
Introduce participants to practical clinical advice on how to incorporate ACT into existing practice
The session will include:
Coverage of the assumptions that ACT makes about thought, emotion and human suffering
Explanations of why ACT can be useful for working with ‘unchangeable’ circumstances e.g. illness, loss
Consideration of key ACT skills, how to develop them and practical examples of how to apply ACT
The learning outcome of the session are:
Participants will be able to describe the key assumptions of the ACT model
Participants will develop fundamental therapeutic skills and exercises form the ACT model, that can be integrated with and applied to existing therapeutic practice
Participants will gain experience of conceptualising therpautic issuers within an ACT framework
Participants will gain skills in applying ACT to their own practice, in a self-reflective capacity
